Magic, romance and adventure collide in WANDFASTED, the irresistible ebook prequel to THE BLACK WITCH "When they painted "Heretics" on our barn and set fire to it, I thought that was the worst it could get. Until they sent the dragons. But they didn't count on us having dragons of our own. And they certainly didn't count on Her. Our Great Mage. The Bringer of Fire. The Storm of Death. The Crow Sorceress. Our Deliverance. The Black Witch." - From WANDFASTED
A wonderful prequel, I didn’t anticipate this part of the story’s journey back in time. Starting reading I was kept in suspense, the characters a full mystery. For "The Black Witch" readers is a delightful insight into the characters history.
When war ensues, the Gardnerians fear for their and the love ones life. Only one is brave enough to stand against the enemy and fight for her family. But not strong enough to defeat them, as is the Black Witch. When fire meets fire, hope arises.
A Level Five Mage and a Lower River peasant sizzling sweet love story, forced by Wandfasting but tightly bound by shared affinities.
I enjoyed the reading with a smile and curiosity for future magic.

The Black Witch by Laurie Forest
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A new Black Witch will rise…her powers vast beyond imagining. Elloren Gardner is the granddaughter of the last prophesied Black Witch, Carnissa Gardner, who drove back the enemy forces and saved the Gardnerian people during the Realm War. But while she is the absolute spitting image of her famous grandmother, Elloren is utterly devoid of power in a society that prizes magical ability above all else. When she is granted the opportunity to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an apothecary, Elloren joins her brothers at the prestigious Verpax University to embrace a destiny of her own, free from the shadow of her grandmother’s legacy. But she soon realizes that the university, which admits all manner of people—including the fire-wielding, winged Icarals, the sworn enemies of all Gardnerians—is a treacherous place for the granddaughter of the Black Witch. As evil looms on the horizon and the pressure to live up to her heritage builds, everything Elloren thought she knew will be challenged and torn away. Her best hope of survival may be among the most unlikely band of misfits…if only she can find the courage to trust those she’s been taught to hate and fear.
I don't form opinions based on reviews and they don't influence me on choosing my readings.
"The Black Witch" may have risen some discussions and controversies, but in the end it is just a work of fiction.
Personally I enjoyed the fantasy world the author created, and I haven't had the desire to let my thoughts wonder elsewhere than the story. It was a pleasant reading, full of magical characters, mistery and intrigue.
The story revolves around Elloren Gardner, her isolation in a world forgotten village leaving her innocent and naive, but she soon discovers the cruelty of people. Nevertheless this doesn't stop her from finding the good in a world of wrong, to start doubting the life she was tought to lead.
The story in its whole is a journey of discovering oneself, the truth, the main characters strongly believing in change, in justice. Elloren surrounds herself with friends from all of the magical people and trusting the last of which she expected - Icarals, shapeshifter Lupines, Elves, Fae. Maybe her destiny is to change their history.
Even if it was a long reading, in which I was left wondering about Elloren and her power and in which way she will twist the plot, the writing style was perfect for keeping me guessing and intrigued.
